Kanaan is an architectural design company focused on achieving transformation and equality through the design of sustainable buildings that optimize environmental performance and the cost‐impact of building.
Kanaan, which means ‘Promised Land’, was formed for the purpose of creating and facilitating sustainable urban environments, which respect the natural environment.
Our aim is to design built environments which enable emerging conditions, by addressing the city of the past, while building the city of the future.
Our architecture aims to respond to the changing needs of society and contribute to creating spatially‐just cities.
Our mandate is to contribute to accelerating the development of new energy‐efficient buildings and to introduce adaptive re‐use strategies to old buildings, for the provision of sustainable and affordable accommodation close to economic opportunities and educational hubs.
WHAT WE DO
From inception to occupation, we conceptualize and oversee the architectural design of buildings of all scales and types, ranging from: residential, commercial, retail, to institutional.
CONCEPT & VIABILITY
DOCUMENTATION & PROCUREMENT
Using data to inform and validate design from the beginning, we apply design-based computer modelling
to determine suitable passive systems, primarily to optimize thermal comfort.
THERMAL COMFORT OPTIMIZATION
Kanaan considers the structure and the processes of each building to ensure that they are environmentally responsible and resource‐efficient throughout a building’s life‐cycle, from:
4 design factors:
Kanaan’s mission is to achieve the triple bottom line of ‘people, planet and profit’, by designing buildings, not only for a profit, but also for the health, safety and productivity of occupants, environmental sustainability, and cost-efficiency of each building that we design, keeping in mind future generations.
“The one constant in life is change, so something as permanent as a building – a platform for living, learning and exchange – has layers which should be added or removed as the city (and its people) evolve and therefore needs to be inherently adaptable and respectful to the natural environment.”
